About NNMCI

The National Nursing & Midwifery Council of India (NNMCI) is a statutory body established under Section-16 of the Indian Nursing Council Act, 1947, and registered under the Indian Trust Act, 1882 and the Indian Registration Act, 1908.

The Council is entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining uniform standards of nursing and midwifery training across recognized and affiliated institutions in India. It works towards regulation, inspection, empanelment and continuous upgradation of nursing education in keeping with modern healthcare requirements.

VISION AND MISSION

Our Vision

The Council's philosophy is consistent with the noble ethos of service, discipline and national integration envisaged for the nursing profession in India. Keeping in view the importance of building a strong healthcare workforce, the Council believes in setting uniform training benchmarks for nursing institutions across all States of India and even abroad, so as to meet the challenges of the modern healthcare delivery system, in conformity with the discipline of the nursing profession.

Nursing and midwifery are lifelong services to the people, and therefore the National Nursing & Midwifery Council of India focuses on ensuring that affiliated institutions prepare students for maximum professional effectiveness throughout their career.

Mission

In pursuance of the said philosophy, the aims and objectives of the Council are:

  • To lay down and periodically revise a sound theoretical and practical curriculum of nursing care at basic as well as advanced levels, covering promotive, preventive, restorative and rehabilitative aspects of health.
  • To empanel, inspect and monitor nursing and midwifery training institutions so that every affiliated college maintains uniform infrastructure, faculty strength and clinical exposure.
  • To enable every registered nurse to plan and act independently, with full professional responsibility, as a qualified nurse and as a spiritually grounded human being.
  • To promote continuing nursing education, research and skill-upgradation programmes for practising nurses and midwives.
