ABOUT THE COUNCIL

Who We Are

The National Nursing & Midwifery Council of India (NNMCI) is a statutory body established under Section-16 of the Indian Nursing Council Act, 1947, and registered under the Indian Trust Act, 1882 and the Indian Registration Act, 1908. Since its inception, the Council has worked as a regulatory and advisory authority for nursing and midwifery education across recognized and affiliated institutions throughout the country.

The Council's core mandate is to maintain uniform academic and clinical training standards, so that every nurse who graduates from an affiliated institution — whether in a metropolitan city or a remote district — is equipped with the same rigorous foundation of knowledge, skill and professional ethics.

Over the years, NNMCI has grown into a nationwide network, empanelling institutions, conducting periodic inspections, prescribing curricula and issuing guidelines that keep pace with evolving healthcare delivery systems in India and abroad.
